Is anyone hip to a guitarist/vocalist from Milwaukee named Willy Porter? Saw him open for Keb Mo. He's deep into alternate tunings and use of multiple capos. A very funny man with the dialogue also.

Oh I think I have heard something from Mr. Porter ...but who knows ya know? Anywho, if you dig Willy Porter (which you will if you hear him) you should also check out a girl called Kaki King ( www.kakiking.com ) if you dig the whole alternate tuning/tap & slap kind of bag...alright kids, I'm gone. peace, Griff

Coincidentally, a guy I met yesterday turned me on to this Kaki King gal. Watching her on video is pretty mind boggling, though her music would be tough to get into. Still I couldn't help but wonder what it would sound like if she collaborated with Les Claypool.

Coincidence upon coincidence, I think I may have seen that same video the other day! Having visited her website and read her biography, I watched with interest knowing that she began her musical adventure as a drummer and moved to New York with the intent of pursuing a career with that instrument. So it's apparent that she has a multi-faceted, genetic predisposition for musical talent and has spent the time and energy to develope it. Her mechanical and rythmic technique on the acoustic guitar was obviously segued from skills she had aquired with the drums. Very interesting.(stroking my goat-tee and nodding slowly)
I must profess ingnorance, however, as to whether she is a vocalist too. Many of us, including yours fooly, are vocally oriented. I enjoy Willie Porter's vocal/lyric & acoustic combination. Great lyrics and sense of humor. Having heard some of his expanded production on the recent purchase of a cd, I must say, however, that I did not enjoy these studio cuts nearly as much as I did his live performance. This is a pretty common phenomenon. That is, transferring that live majic to the studio cut is not automatic.
Well, thanks for your input Bob. Give us some more anytime.....please. In the meantime remember:

That Little Richard guy is full of crap man. I've been in Kansas City for a month now, and thus far, all of these "crazy women" he sang about have eluded me. I've been had. Rock 'N' Roll is a lie! I guess that's why Pat Boone isn't rocking anymore. He must've discovered the truth about these Kansas City women long ago.
