Hey, I just saw their video on T.V. Good stuff, or at least I think so. I thought some of you might be interested in checking them out. Kind of a blues/rock/country feel (yeah, I know, they all overlap automatically.) I'd see this on CMT if it wasn't for the dreadlocks and skateboard (and this would be among the good music CMT plays sometimes, not the new pop stuff). Also, the bassist uses an upright, which is always awesome.

Hmmmmm....haven't seen that yet Morgs. Will keep and eye out. There seems to be a growing trend to roots oriented music.........that is, acoustic instumentation without massive effects and vocals from the heart.(or atleast from somewhere besides the throat & nose) And I agree, this tends to cut across the genre lines. This gets a 4 hoof rating from Otis.

www.mtvu.com/music/freshmen/#This link should take you to a page that has the John Butler Trio video. I have only seen it on MTV-U, so I don't know if it is on mainstream MTV/VH1, etc.

The song has a nice groove to it that I'm really digging. And the singer (I assume that's John Butler) has rad hair.

I am disgruntled, (as only a pig can grunt), because my aged computer will not comply with playback. And what's so special about red hair? Oh, he said RAD hair. Rough morning........

O.K......I got the John Butler cd/dvd for my birthday. (thanks Morgain) Most excellent. I benefitted from watching the dvd first. It clued me into what and how this material was played.(most footage is live performance) Butler plays several, acoustic, stringed instruments using effects. The tunes are uniquely his. He really doesn't sound like anyone else. I found the Aussie dingo lingo a bit hard to follow but then I find most lyrics hard to follow.(personal problem I guess)
All 3 of the players are sound, expressive technicians using varied techniques to achieve the unique sound of the band. Most of what you hear on the cd is pulled off live by the group. Very little extraneous production. I give it 4 hooves up!
